Kidnapped ex-minister of environment, her husband freed

Laurentia Laraba Mallam, the minister of the environment during the government of Goodluck Jonathan, and her 73-year-old husband Pius Mallam were freed from the abductors.


The money-thirsty kidnappers released the couple after their relatives paid a ransom after a series of negotiations. The information about their release was provided to Sahara Reporters by a compentent source close to the family.

Recall that the duo were abducted on Monday, October 3, on their way to Kaduna from Abuja. The abductors reportedly demanded 10 million ransom to release them. The driver of Mallam was also shot on his hand by the gunmen.

In a separate development Mrs Margaret Emefiele, the wife of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, was kidnapped on Thursday, September 29, Thursday. She was released by her abductors just 24 hours after the incident.

The criminals later confessed that they didn’t intend to kidnap Mrs Emefiele as it was a random operation.
